Why do I feel so lonely in Germany?

"I don't understand it. People are polite, but nobody seems interested in becoming friends." It is a sentence I hear surprisingly often from expats living in Germany. After the excitement of moving abroad begins to fade, many people are left with an unexpected feeling of loneliness. They start wondering whether they are doing something wrong or whether there is something about them that makes it difficult to connect with others.

Why growth doesn't always look the way we expect it to

This is a sentence I hear often in my work as a psychologist. People tell me about anxieties that suddenly return, sadness they thought they had overcome, or situations that once again throw them off balance. Many experience this as a setback and begin to question whether their efforts have accomplished anything at all. Yet I often wonder whether we are sometimes looking for the wrong signs.
